Marvin Gaye Chetwynd Exhibit

Jan 1, 1970

Classical literature meets Hollywood next year as Nottingham Contemporary Art Centre welcomes the Turner Prize nominee Marvin Gaye Chetwynd. This is the first solo exhibition that Chetwynd has displayed in Britain and it will include a combination of her work combined with some performance.

Chetwynd is the daughter of the Academy award winning production designer Lucianna Arrighi and it would seem that the artistic spark is somewhere in the blood! Chetwynd left University and trained as a painter in the Slade School of Fine art. Her work The Fall of Man tells the story of some of man-kind’s greatest failings, basing the stories around the Book of Genesis, Paradise lost and The German Ideology, all of this was told through puppetry.

Much of Chetwynd’s work is based around some of the more momentous moments in history, the arts and culture; however she also draws in inspiration from Hollywood movies such as Star Ship Troopers. This clash of worlds is represented through her carnival-style floats and puppets that will leave you both astounded and perplexed.

Chetwynd’s work will be displayed in 25 Jan 2014 – 23 Mar 2014. For more information visit the Nottingham Contemporary.
