Description

Deep Pour Resin Workshop – Rectangular Serving Board or Small Table Top

Join us at our Gedling shop on Saturday 2.30pm for a hands-on Deep Pour Resin Workshop, where you’ll create your own unique resin and wood rectangular piece.

Using one of our specially prepared silicone moulds, you’ll make a piece approximately 45cm x 30cm that can be finished and used as either a large serving board or a small table top.

The exact depth of your finished piece will depend on the natural timber we are able to source for the workshop. Every piece of wood is different, so grain, live edges, knots, shape and character will vary – making every finished project completely individual.

Learn About Deep Pour Resin

This workshop is designed to take you beyond simple resin coating and smaller craft projects.

We’ll explain the differences between coating resin, casting resin and deep-pour epoxy resin, helping you understand why different resins are designed for different applications.

You’ll learn why pour depth matters, why epoxy generates heat while curing and why you should always work within the recommended limits of the particular resin you are using.

The aim is not simply to tell you what to do – we want you to understand why the process works, giving you knowledge that can be applied to larger resin projects in the future.

What You’ll Learn

During the workshop we’ll cover:

  • The differences between coating, casting and deep-pour resin
  • Understanding maximum pour depths
  • How resin generates heat during curing
  • Choosing the correct resin for a project
  • Preparing natural timber for resin casting
  • Planning your resin and wood design
  • Positioning timber inside the mould
  • Calculating how much resin is required
  • Correct measuring and mixing techniques
  • Adding pigments and creating your chosen colour effect
  • Managing bubbles
  • Working times and curing times
  • How moulds for larger resin projects are designed and prepared
  • How these techniques can be adapted for larger table tops, river tables and resin furniture projects

Create Your Own Rectangular Resin & Wood Piece

For the practical part of the workshop, you’ll use one of our rectangular silicone moulds to create your own resin and wood project.

Your finished piece will measure approximately:

45cm x 30cm

You can choose to use your finished piece as a statement serving board or turn it into the top for a small side table or coffee table.

The final thickness will depend on the timber available for your session.

You’ll work with natural wood, arrange your design inside the mould and choose the colours and effects you would like to create with your resin.

Because natural timber varies so much, no two pieces will ever be identical.

Learn Skills for Bigger Resin Projects

This workshop is ideal if you are interested in progressing into larger resin work.

The same principles you learn during the class can help you understand how projects such as:

River tables, coffee tables, console tables, serving boards, furniture panels and larger resin artwork

are planned and created.

We’ll also explain the principles behind making and preparing moulds for larger resin projects, so you can begin to understand how you could move beyond ready-made moulds in your own future work.

Who Is This Workshop For?

This workshop is suitable for anyone interested in deep-pour epoxy resin, resin and wood projects, serving boards, table tops, river tables or resin furniture.

You do not need to already know how to make a deep-pour project. We will guide you through the process and explain each stage as you work.

Curing & Collection

Deep-pour epoxy resin requires time to cure correctly, so your finished piece will not be ready to take home on the day.

Your serving board or table top will normally be ready approximately one week after the workshop, once it has cured sufficiently and we have completed our final quality checks.

You can then:

  • Collect your finished piece from our Gedling shop
  • Arrange postage if preferred

Important Workshop Information

Anyone aged 14–17 must be accompanied by a responsible adult who is also booked onto and participating in the course.

PPE is provided and must be worn during the relevant parts of the session.

Safety guidance will be given at the beginning of the workshop.

No food or drink is permitted within resin work areas.

Important Safety Notice

This workshop involves the use of resins, chemicals, tools and other workshop materials. For everyone’s safety, all participants must follow the instructions and safety guidance provided by our staff.

Unsafe, reckless or dangerous behaviour will not be tolerated.

If, in our judgement, a participant behaves in a way that could put themselves, another participant, staff member, equipment or the premises at risk, they may be removed from the course immediately and no refund will be given.

If a participant under the age of 18 is removed from the course because of unsafe behaviour, the responsible adult attending with them will also be required to leave. No refund will be given for either booking.

If the responsible adult is required to leave because of unsafe or inappropriate behaviour, the under-18 participant in their care must also leave the workshop.

By booking this course, participants agree to follow all safety instructions given by our staff.

Looking After Your Finished Resin Piece

Your finished resin piece is hard and durable once properly cured, but epoxy resin should be protected from excessive heat.

Please do not place hot mugs, hot plates, pans, ovenware, candle containers or other very hot objects directly onto the resin surface.

Always use a coaster, trivet or heat-resistant mat for hot items.
