Deep Pour Resin Workshop – Serving Board or Small Coffee Table Top

Ready to take your resin work to the next level?

This hands-on Deep Pour Resin Workshop is designed for anyone wanting to understand how epoxy resin behaves when creating larger and deeper projects.

Rather than simply following a basic resin recipe, this class will help you understand which resin to choose, how deep you can pour it and why different projects require different types of epoxy resin.

You will also learn about mould construction and the principles behind creating your own moulds, giving you the knowledge to progress onto larger resin projects in the future.

Understanding Different Types of Resin

Not all epoxy resin is the same.

During the workshop, we will explain the differences between:

• Coating and tabletop epoxy resin
• Deep-pour epoxy resin

You’ll learn why some resins are designed for very thin applications while others can be poured much deeper.

We’ll also explain why you should never assume that every deep-pour resin can be poured to the same depth.

The amount of resin, thickness of the project, room temperature, wood, mould size and manufacturer’s recommendations can all affect how safely the resin cures.

You’ll learn how to choose the right resin for the project rather than simply choosing a resin because it says “epoxy” on the label.

Learn About Mould Making for Larger Projects

One of the most useful skills when progressing into larger resin work is understanding how moulds are designed and constructed.

We’ll talk you through how larger moulds can be planned, built, sealed and prepared for resin casting.

This knowledge can then be used when you want to move on to projects such as:

River tables, coffee tables, serving boards, furniture panels, console tables and larger resin artwork.

For the practical project during this class, you will use one of our specially prepared silicone moulds, allowing you to concentrate on timber placement, resin preparation, colour, design and achieving a successful deep pour.

Create Your Own Resin & Wood Board

The class finishes with you creating and pouring your own resin and wood piece.

You will have two project shapes to choose from.

Loop Handle Serving Board

Approximately 63 cm × 21 cm ( I can do a Max 5 per class with this shape)

This long serving-board design features a distinctive loop-style handle and creates a beautiful statement piece for serving, entertaining or displaying in your home.

The finished depth of the board will depend on the natural wood available for your workshop.

Rectangular Serving Board or Small Table Top

Approximately 45 cm × 30 cm ( I can do a max 2 per class with this shape)

This versatile rectangular design can be finished as a large serving board or used as the top for a small side table or coffee table.

It is a great choice if you are interested in progressing towards resin furniture and larger table projects.

Again, the exact depth will depend on the timber we are able to source for the project.

Work With Natural Wood

Every piece of timber is different.

Knots, grain, live edges, shape and thickness are all part of what makes resin and wood projects unique.

Because we use natural timber, the wood available will vary from class to class. This means your finished board will genuinely be your own rather than an exact copy of somebody else’s.

We’ll help you look at the timber available and decide how best to position it inside your mould before pouring.

Learn the Deep-Pour Process

Throughout the workshop, you’ll learn about the complete pouring process, including:

Choosing the correct resin for the project, calculating how much resin you need, preparing timber, preparing the mould, positioning the wood, mixing resin correctly, adding pigments and colour, managing bubbles, understanding working time, controlling heat during curing and understanding how pour depth affects the finished result.

The aim is not simply to help you make one beautiful board.

We want you to leave understanding why the process works, so you can use what you have learned when developing larger projects of your own.

Important Workshop Information

• Ages 14+
• Anyone aged 14–17 must be accompanied by a responsible adult who is also booked onto and participating in the course
• The accompanying adult will be responsible for the young person throughout the workshop
• We operate a Challenge 25 policy, so photo ID may be requested where appropriate
• PPE is provided and must be worn throughout the relevant parts of the workshop
• Full safety guidance will be given at the start of the session
• No food or drink is permitted in resin work areas
• Please wear old clothing as resin can permanently damage fabric

Any respiratory, breathing-related or other relevant medical conditions must be disclosed before attending so we can advise appropriately

Important Safety Notice

For everyone’s safety, unsafe, reckless or dangerous behaviour will not be tolerated at any point during the workshop.

This course involves the use of resins, chemicals, tools and other workshop materials, so all participants must follow the safety instructions given by our staff.

If, in our judgement, a participant behaves in a way that could put themselves, another person, staff, equipment or the premises at risk, they may be asked to leave the course immediately and no refund will be given.

If a participant under the age of 18 is removed from the workshop for unsafe behaviour, the responsible adult attending with them will also be required to leave. No refund will be given for either booking.

Likewise, if the responsible adult is required to leave the course because of unsafe or inappropriate behaviour, the under-18 participant in their care must also leave.

By booking this workshop, all participants agree to follow the safety guidance and instructions provided by our staff throughout the session.

Looking After Your Finished Resin Piece

Your finished piece is made using GlassCast 3 epoxy resin.

Although cured epoxy is hard and durable, it is not designed as a heat-resistant surface for very hot objects.

As a general guideline, keep objects placed directly onto the resin well below 58°C.

Please avoid placing the following directly onto the resin:

• Hot mugs or cups
• Hot plates
• Saucepans or frying pans
• Ovenware
• Hot candle containers
• Anything placed directly from a kettle, oven, microwave or hob

Room-temperature and mildly warm items are fine.

For anything hot, always use a coaster, trivet or heat-resistant mat to protect the resin surface.

Why is 58°C important?

The 58°C figure is not a hot-object rating.

It relates to the resin’s glass-transition temperature after post-curing. As epoxy approaches this temperature it can begin to soften, mark, distort or become cloudy, particularly if a hot or heavy object is left on the surface.

Your resin piece also needs time to reach its full hardness, so please avoid placing warm or heavy objects onto it until it has fully cured.

Curing & Collection

Epoxy resin requires the correct curing time to achieve a strong, durable and professional finish.

Your finished resin serving board or table top will normally be ready approximately one week after the workshop, once it has fully cured and we have completed our final quality checks.

You can then:

• Collect your finished piece from our Nottingham store
• Arrange postage if you would prefer it to be sent to you
