Bockingford is a beautiful English watercolour paper, traditionally made on a cylinder mould machine at St Cuthbert’s Mill. This is a high-quality paper made using pure materials to archival standards. Its attractive surface is created using natural woollen felts that give it a distinctive random texture. Appreciated for its excellent colour lifting abilities, this is an extremely forgiving watercolour paper valued by professional and amateur artists around the world. Bockingford offers quality watercolour paper at an affordable price.
Bockingford watercolour paper is cylinder mould made which gives a superior surface stability.
It is acid free and archival and the price that is exceptionally good value for money and quality. There is a beautiful random texture which is created in the production by the use of natural woodland felts. Made from 100% woodfree bleached chemical pulp calcium carbonate buffered pH 7 -9. There are no optical whitening agents, it is highly lightfast.
Bockingford watercolour paper is produced in St Cuthbert’s mill in Wells UK. They manufacture its in 5 light tints and 3 surfaces the hot press cold pressed and rough. We sell it in sheet form pads whether it be spiral or glued long edge or blocks where the glued on all 4 sides. Please check our our other listings for these.
Would highly recommend that the paper is stored flats avoid extreme temperatures, the next door in direct sunlight try avoid handling the painting surface try using the edges.
You may find that the lightweight papers on the 300 gsm and possibly the 300gsm would benefit from soaking and stretching the paper to avoid the buckling when applying washes. The windowless make sure the paper is not exposed to any detergents because that will affect the papers absorbency. Bockingford does not have gelatine surface sizing so is not quite as robust when using masking fluid main thing is just to make sure you take it off before it dries hard as it may damage the paper.
One of our top recommendations for any level of artist is a good paper to learn on and we know there are professionals that swear by it. Well price for the quality of paper it is.

Hot Press is a smooth paper that is good for detailed work.
